STORY OF GLOBAL VOLUNTEER IN VIETNAM

 

Hello. My name is Putri Hasna Maharani. My project is Green With Fingers in Vietnam. My project start from 1 January – 16 February. In here I have two workplaces. One in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and other place in Kon Tum Province. My workplace in HCMC is one hours from District 1. And Kon Tum is 14 hours from HCMC by Bus.

My project in here is gardening and teaching. Gardening include seeding, planting, harvesting, cleaning, packaging. So many vegetables here like radish, carrot, mustard green, pak coy, bok choy, baby cucumber, potato, and many more.

First time I came here. I’m going into Kon Tum Province. My work from Monday until Saturday. In the morning we doing packaging. A lot of vegetable we pack and wrapping. After we pack and wrap we have barcode and sticker Happy Vegi for every package.

  

After that in the afternoon we doing planting, seeding, cleaning, harvesting, and many more. The most favorite work for me is planting. I just like transferred plants to the soil. And harvesting big radish and carrot. After harvesting we must cleaning the vegetable. This is must be doing, because all vegetable will be pack and wrap for tomorrow morning.  

   

 

If you want more strong for working. We doing cleaning the soil, this one is hard because you must take all grass, residue vegetable, and digging with big hoe.

      

Actually, my project didn’t teaching kids. My OPM Thao, tell me that we didn’t have chance to teach English. I don’t know why. But we got better chance in farm. That is learning together with other workers and another EP from India and Japan. We learn 4 languages, it is Vietnamese, Indonesia language, Hindi language, and Japan language.

The best thing is you have friend from another country, open minded, and respect for their culture. I’m always learning new thing in Vietnam. That person who can help you is yourself. And of coarse God. I’m so blessed and glad to learn about agriculture in there. And ya, I hope this journey have impact for me for the future.

	And one more my friend in Kon Tum is Lisa, first time I come here in January she still a worker. Then when I comeback in February, she is being manager here. She can talk English and very kind people

Overall my work is start 07.30 in the morning until 11.00 then we have lunch and rest. After that we work again from 14.00 until 17.00. We have breakfast, lunch, and dinner together. The funny thing is just one person can speak and understand English. All workers always use Vietnamese. And that’s challenges for me, and we always use body language or google translate for communicate each other.

Okay, after that I move into my second workplace. That’s in HCMC. In here I’m doing the same thing as I do in Kon Tum Province. In HCMC have smaller garden than in Kon Tum Province.

Because Tet Holiday, we have 2 weeks free. And workplace is closed during Tet Holiday. And AIESEC FTU HCMC has two trip program for Tet Holiday. Its Mekong River and Vung Tau. But I just join for Vung Tau Beach. This is some picture during Tet Holiday in Vung Tau Beach.

     

Because trip just for 2 days. And we still have holiday we going to Phu Quoc Island. Why we going here it is because all workplace are closed. And all workers is going to hometown to celebrate Tet Holiday with family. And city is so quiet. Two people planning (Tim and Weijin) and all friend are coming. This is wanna be good journey. We spend time together there and have nice memory.

  

And didn’t forget to have mask because CORONA VIRUS attack us in Vietnam on February

Another event that I join is Global Village, Marketing day, Reflection Day, and Debrief Meeting. Global Village in FTU HCMC. Marketing and Reflection day in Coffe Shop. And Debrief Meeting is just talking about my impact during and until I finished my project with my OPM Thao by vidcall. I just have picture for Global Village. And meet EP from Unsri Kak Iza.

Because this project and after join Global Volunteer, I’m really more falling in love with my country. And respectfully with other culture. Open minded if they have other perception. And more adaptive with new challenge.
